Long Distance Buses

Introduction:

Buses are one of the easiest and most affordable ways to travel in Argentina. Long distance buses travel between cities and towns. Buses that travel for long distances or overnight often have cama (bed) seats that fold all the way back. They are really comfortable!

How do people get around?:

People travel by colectivo, public bus, within cities. To get from one city to another, people often take long-distance buses. Even people who own cars often prefer to take the bus on long trips, because they can relax or sleep during the journey.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I was really excited for my first long-distance bus ride. I booked a ticket to travel from Buenos Aires to Mar del Plata, which is a six hour trip. I packed a bag of snacks and a book. The bus was a double decker, so I was sure to book a seat on the upper level so that I could have a great view. I had big plans to watch the landscape of the Pampas outside my window and to read my book during the ride, but shortly after settling into my comfortable cama seat, I fell fast asleep!

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Argentina is a huge country. From north to south, it is 3,694 kilometers (2,295 miles) long. That's more than 175 times as long as Manhattan!
