Coatis at Iguazu Falls

They have a really good sense of smell, and they use their paws to dig up the ground to find bugs to eat for protein. The coatis in at Iguazú Falls are living in an environment with lots of humans. They have adapted to eating human food in order to survive.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Humans can harm coatis. When tourists visit Iguazú Falls and leave food or trash around, the coatis will eat it. Coatis might accidentally eat a plastic wrapper or a greasy bag of chips, and that could make the animal sick. The coatis in the national park have become so used to eating human food that they no longer know how to search for food in the wild. People who visit Iguazú Falls can help the coatis by keeping their food closed up in a bag and throwing their trash away in the proper place.
