Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

English, although Scotland has a distinctive accent and lots of slang words! The native langauge of Scottish Gaelic is rare, but some communities are trying to keep it alive.

What type of money is used here?:

British Pound Sterling (GBP). People in the UK also call it "quid."

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

1.5 GBP or $2 USD, so pretty similiar price as in the U.S.

What was the best meal this week?:

My friends and I split a Domino's pizza while we watched When Harry Met Sally after we returned from the Zoo trip. Domino's pizza in Scotland tastes pretty similiar to the American version! You can actually find quite a few American fast food chains in the UK, including Burger King and KFC, although I generally tend to try more UK-based restaurants.

What music did I listen to this week?:

Artists like Taylor Swift, Hozier, Florence and the Machine and Noah Kahan really help me get into the autumnal vibe!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Gathering with friends to play board games in a pub! Our favorite game so far is Hues and Cues.

What did I read this week?:

One of my readings for class was a poem entitled "The Lady of the Lake" by Sir Walter Scott, which takes place in the Trossachs, a region in the Highlands.
