The Homeless Community in London

Introduction:

The local churches here in London work hard to serve and help those in need in the community. From helping the homeless to feeding children, they make quite an impact.

What community need did I learn about?:

I learned about Londoners' need for food and shelter. There is a big population of homeless people here in London, which suprised me when I first came. The churches I have been attending here contribute a lot to address this problem.  I'm glad that I can help make a positive impact in my new community here.

Why does the community have this need?:

London has a surprisingly high homeless population. London has roughly 170,000 homeless people, which is nearly half the homeless population in the United Kingdom. People become homeless from losing their jobs, their families or through drug/alcohol abuse.  Life is hard for homeless people here.  Although the winter temperatures in London are not as cold as in Brooklyn, the weather is raw and damp and often falls to freezing temperatures at night.

Is this need being met? How?:

One of the churches I attend, Every Nation Church, does a food and clothing drive for the homeless in the various towns around London.
