The Dominican Government

We are an institution that is decentralized from the government, but we depend on the government.

3. What is most of the district money used for (roads, cleaning, parks, schools)?

The district money is divided into four percentages. 25% goes to employees. 31% goes to municipal services. 40% goes to municipal projects. 4% goes to gender, health and education. That's until now, 2025. Now, the law will change that distribution completely. The 40% we had allocated for municipal projects is now reduced to 25%. The government has increased the percentage that goes towards services like cleaning, the acquisition of vehicles, garbage trucks, garbage dumps, a municipal market. We are also increasing the 25% that goes to employees to 30%, so the mayor’s office has the ability to hire more people. We do not have much source of employment in Don Juan. We really just have the mayor’s office and the schools. So with more money, we can hire more people for more services.

4. Has the Municipal Palace completed a new project lately?

We have the construction of this Municipal Palace that we had not had. We have renovated a lot of roads. We are trying to repair sidewalks so people do not have to walk on the street. We are just waiting to have the appointed engineer to start that process. We are starting the construction of the Municipal Market. We are just waiting for the government to give us the money we are allocated. The Municipal Market is a place for local agriculture workers to sell their harvest.

5. What services does the Municipal Palace offer people (like water, trash or lighting)?

All that. As long as the budget allows.
