The Dominican Government

The United States has states with more independence, while in the Dominican Republic, the most important decisions come from the national government.

Local Government Similarities  Both Bakersfield, California and Don Juan, Monte Plata have local leaders. In Bakersfield, there is a mayor and in Don Juan there is a municipal director. Both help to organize and care for their community. Both places have employees who clean the streets, take care of the parks and help the city or the district stay organized. They also do projects to improve the place, like building roads, fixing lights, and organizing activities for the people of the town or city.  Differences
Bakersfield is a big city with many people and buildings. Don Juan is a small district in the province of Monte Plata with less people and more land. Bakersfield has a lot more money because it is a big city. Don Juan has less resources and needs more help from the national government to complete projects. In Bakersfield, there is a council and a mayor that help to direct everything. In Don Juan, there is a district board with a director and various members that make decisions together. Bakersfield can make many decisions on its own, while Don Juan has to work with the city of Monte Plata and the national government to make decisions. Interview with the Municipal Palace
