Similarities

Both governments have three very important powers. The executive branch is composed of the president and his team and they execute the laws. The legislative branch makes the laws (Congress or Senate). The judicial branch is made up of judges that make sure laws are followed well. Both governments elect their president through the votes of their citizens. In both countries, the president works to care for and improve their nation.

Differences

The United States is much bigger and has millions of inhabitants. The Dominican Republic is much smaller and has less people. In the United States, citizens vote, but the president is elected through a system called the Electoral College. In the Dominican Republic, the president is elected directly through the vote of the people. If nobody wins more than 50%, a second election round is held. In both countries, the president governs for four years. However, in the United States, the president can only govern two times (a maximum of eight years). In the Dominican Republic, the president can also govern two times, but he or she has to win another election.
