Hey 6th grade! As the year has come to an end, so has our virtual exchange. I have been so happy to be able to connect with you all and share a little bit about my time here in Germany. I have been able to come here for the year because of the Fulbright scholarship, an award between Germany and the U.S.A that promotes the exchange of ideas and culture for students who have finished their time at college. The ability to be a part of that mission has helped me learn so many things and made me think of so many questions about how we all live in one big global community - a lesson that I hope you have all gotten the chance to see a bit through the articles I have written!
Even though our exchange is over, I hope you all can continue to find new ways to explore the world! This doesn’t always mean boarding a plane - check out the AFS club in a few years or even throw on subtitles on your favorite TV show. I may be a little bit biased, but I think that language is one of the most powerful tools to understand different cultures and experiences. As you check out the words that you might not always understand, look for patterns and common words.
