In this field note, I would like to give you a glimpse into the life of a student abroad in Madrid, Spain. Every day, I balance classes, exploring Madrid, learning Spanish, and traveling abroad. From navigating the Metro to sharing meals with my host family, each day has brought me something new.
Christiane Morton
I live in the northern part of Madrid, in Chamartín, outside the city center. I live in an apartment with my host family, but I have my own room and bathroom. Usually, for bigger meals like lunch and dinner, we eat at the dining table, and on weekends, meals are more formal.
My host family is amazing! Paz is my host mom, and she is a florist. She works every day, including the weekends, but tries her best to spend time with me and her daughter for dinner. I usually cannot wait to see what she has prepared for dinner; it is always so delicious. My host sister, Lola, is her daughter. She is 26, living at home, and working as a fashion designer outside the city. She is creative and loves playing the same video games that I do.
