The Conclusion of my Moroccan Adventure: Life Lessons from the Maghreb

Without their support, I would never have experienced this life-changing adventure.

Living in Morocco taught me a lot about their beautiful culture. In Morocco, for example, the guest is always the most important person in the room. It does not matter if you are a complete stranger. Moroccans will go to great lengths to ensure you feel welcomed and that all your needs are met. Additionally, Moroccan families remain united in a way that is truly inspiring. While my American peers often focus mainly on their future careers, young Moroccans put their family goals first. As a result, they think about how their choices will affect their entire family, not just themselves.

My time in Morocco also taught me some valuable lessons that I will carry with me forever. For example, I have learned that small gestures can make an enormous difference in someone's day. A smile, offering help, or simply being friendly can mean everything to someone. I learned that generosity creates more generosity. When you show kindness to others, they want to be kind as well. Sometimes we become so afraid of failing that we do not even try new things. However, in Morocco, I discovered that you often have nothing to lose except your fear. I have learned that taking that scary first step can lead to amazing experiences.

Throughout my time in Morocco, I have realized how much I always seek to be in a hurry, as if I could only get things done if I was constantly in a rush, but Moroccans taught me something important. Rushing does not mean you will accomplish more. Instead of constantly hurrying, I now try to find a balance between work, family, friends and time to learn new things. It is wise to make plans, but I do not become upset when things do not go exactly as expected.
