Now, I am always prepared to change my plans if something better comes up, or if my original idea does not work out. Finally, while traveling is fun, the most meaningful experiences I have had have come from long-term connections with people. Therefore, instead of constantly moving around, I have learned that taking the time to really get to know a place and its people is well worth the sacrifice.
This experience helped me grow in many ways. I learned how to do research in a foreign country, communicate across different cultures and languages, and make friends with people from completely different backgrounds than mine. One of my favorite memories include performing music in beautiful places, including the Cathedral of Rabat. Every Sunday, I enjoyed singing with my local parish choir. I also tried new activities like surfing, rollerblading and improving my dancing. Finally, I loved getting to explore the country with my parents when they visited.
Morocco has some truly magical places that left lasting impressions on me. Essouira, for example, was incredibly peaceful with delicious seafood and beautiful beaches. I cannot wait to return and try surfing and horseback riding on the beach! The Sahara Desert was quiet and peaceful in a completely different way. Riding a camel and watching the sunset over endless sand dunes was unforgettable. I even learned about how nomadic people live in the desert. Similarly, Tangier had such a relaxed lifestyle and natural beauty. Because of its geographic position and complex history, it has a unique, international atmosphere.
If you ever get the opportunity to travel to Morocco, I highly recommend it. You will not regret it.
