A Festival Like No Other: Carnivale

Introduction:

Do you have any local traditions or events where you are from? Italy has many traditions, and some of them are Valentine's Day, La Festa delle Donner (International Women's Day) and The Festa delia Repubblica (Italian Republic Day) which marks the birth of the Italian Republic.

In Italy, one of the largest celebrations is called Carnevale (Carnival or Mardi Gras). This is one of the most colorful festivals in the world! This takes place throughout Italy, but Venice is the most popular spot.

If you go to Venice, you will not be disappointed with this colorful festival!

What tradition did I learn about?:

During Carnival, the streets are filled with acrobats, musicians and people wearing colorful and elegant masks and costumes. In Italian history, costumes and masks are worn during the festival used as a way of self-expression and a way to talk to other people without judgment.

Do you know what a Halloween costume is? What's your favorite costume? Why did you choose it? How does it make you feel? How do you act when you are wearing it?

A Carnival costume is like a Halloween costume. When you wear a costume with a mask, no one knows who you are. This adds to the fun of attending this festival. These masks and costumes are worn at an event called a masquerade ball.
