Our News

What music did I listen to this week?:

On Saturday night, my host dad took me to explore an area of the city that is next to the river. During our walk, we stumbled upon a festival in celebration of the Beatles. I was surprised to hear English music and see lots of posters of the famous British musicians!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I had a blast getting to know my host family. Simple moments of family time have been my most treasured moments so far. My family has already taught me a lot of Spanish and about life in Guayaquil.

What did I read this week?:

For fun, I have been reading a book called River of Doubt, which is about Theodore Roosevelt's journey through the Amazon. Do you know who Theodore Roosevelt is? Hopefully I will have the chance to travel to the Ecuadorian Amazon at some point this year! I have also been reading many scientific articles about different topics in ecology, especially about mangroves.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

My favorite sport is swimming; I have always been on a swim team since I was eight years old. Are you on a swim team? Do you take swimmming lessons?

Luckily for me, there is a beautiful outdoor pool at my host university. Although I did not have a chance to swim this week, I can't wait to use the pool for the rest of this year!

Other news from this week:

I spent a lot of time this week hanging out with my host family to get to know them better. In the evenings, I watched a telenovela (TV drama in Spanish) with my host Mom and sister.
