Europe is a lot of fun, and the transportation is kind of fun, too. People walk and take trains here much more than they do in the United States. Fewer people drive here than back home, especially in cities, which as an American is a very strange thing! We tend to drive a lot in the U.S. because our country is so big. Since European countries are much smaller, taking a train between cities and even countries is very common.
A lot of people in Bristol run or bike to work. Those seem to be the most popular methods of transportation. People here also travel via bus, car or on foot. Did you know that they drive on the opposite side of the road in the United Kingdom? Some people commute in and out of Bristol on Great Western Railway trains as well.
Traveling on foot and by bike can be refreshing, but when you've got a meeting or class in 30 minutes or are going home at night in the rain it can be quite annoying. Not being able to drive myself to all of my destinations definitely takes some getting used to. Biking home late at night and in the rain means I take every safety precaution I can, such as wearing a helmet and using bike reflectors.
