Getting Outside on Sunny Days

Introduction:

Sunny days here in the United Kingdom, which is sometimes referred to as a "rainy island in the Atlantic Ocean" are much appreciated. Games, including rugby, cricket and "football" (soccer, to us) are commonly played on short notice when the sun comes out.

What tradition did I learn about?:

Each city has small parks that are usually empty, but when a city gets a little bit of sunshine the parks fill with kids from school, dogs, runners and people playing sports. This weekend, on a sunny Saturday, I biked to a large park just outside of the city with a friend. Even though I've lived in both California and Florida, living in such a rainy place really makes you appreciate the sun.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

The community does not often have the chance to get outside without getting soaking wet. As a result, people are much more lenient about time off when it is sunny. Being able to go outside in the sunshine helps keep the people here happy!

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

As I've mentioned above, the heavy amount of rain here makes everyone appreciate the sun. All the rain also makes everything green and beautiful. Another way this tradition is connected to the environment is because Britain was formerly ruled by lords, who oversaw large areas of lands, oftentimes from a castle.
