Polish Pierogi

Introduction:

Trying new Polish foods has been one of my favorite things since my arrival here in Poland. Their diet frequently revolves around a few basic foods including beets, potatoes, cheese and sausage. One of the most famous Polish foods around the world is a pierogi, a dumpling usually stuffed with cheese, potatoes and a few other ingredients.

What food did I try?:

I tried pierogi several times since my arrival in Poland. It has been my go-to meal in many cases because every Polish person that I know recommends it when we're out to dinner together. Pierogi is a dumpling traditionally filled with cheese, potatoes, sauerkraut, meat, mushrooms, onions or fruit, depending on what recipe you are following. My favorite so far have been ruskie pierogi which is predominantly cheese and potato. They are often served with salt, sauce or sometimes yogurt.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

When trying pierogi for the first time in Poland, I was shocked at how different they tasted from those I had tried in the U.S. While I never liked pierogi before, these dumplings in Poland are incredible. I can't wait to begin trying the different fillings in the coming weeks.

How is the food prepared?:

Pierogi is prepared similar to any dumpling meal. The dough is made from flour and water, sometimes with an egg, and then rolled flat.
