The weather has been really nice overall. I’ve actually warmed up to it pretty well and have gotten used to how unpredictable it can be. Some days are sunny and warm, but then out of nowhere, you’ll get a quick rain shower or a storm. I was not expecting to see lightning this late in the year, so that was a surprise. Rome had an early autumn storm that came through, but it cleared out fast and left the air feeling fresh.
You see cats everywhere in Rome, especially lounging on the ruins like they own the place. Roman cats, sometimes called “tree cats,” are kind of like local celebrities here, and people leave food out for them all over the city. Pigeons are also everywhere, and they’re bold. They don’t fly away when you walk up to them; they’ll come right up to your feet looking for food. Even if you try to kick them away, they’ll come right back.
