They use their environment in smart ways to stay cool, safe and fed.
Kangaroos eat the grass and plants that grow all around them. Even when it doesn’t rain much, they can find small green plants to munch on. This helps them survive when food is hard to find.
When the weather gets very hot, kangaroos rest in the shade under trees or bushes. They come out at night or early in the morning when it’s cooler.
Cars can hurt kangaroos when they hop across roads. Kangaroos also have to be careful of wild dogs, like dingos, that might try to chase them.
But the good news is that most kangaroo species are not in danger right now. There are millions of kangaroos living in Australia; MORE than people!
People are careful to protect them by putting up signs on roads and helping take care of their land.
