Bountiful Blessings from Moti Dungri Temple

Walking in, I saw railings, gates and windows tied with red bracelets. What could this mean? My friend explained that each bracelet represented someone's prayers and wishes. After praying, the bracelet was offered to Ganesh and tied somewhere in the temple. More gift were offered at the alter. Worshippers brought laddu, an Indian sweet known to be Ganesh's favorite treat.

As I was leaving, I learned that cars aren't the only things brought to be blessed by Ganesh at his temple. The first wedding invitation is always brought to the temple to invite God to the wedding and to bless the occasion. Newly married couples also come to worship Ganesh as they embark on their new journey together and wish for a prosperous life.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

These traditions exists around Ganesh because he is The Lord of New Beginnings, The Lord of Good Fortune, and The Remover of Obstacles. Bringing a new car to be blessed by the temple ensures that a family's journey will be safe and protected. People bring gifts of bracelets and sweets as offerings and signs of respect to the god who brings prosperity, wealth and good luck. Ganesh's presence in a wedding and marriage signifies the hope for blessings, wealth and prosperity in the relationship.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

As an old and well-known Ganesh temple, Moti Dungri is home to some of these special traditions for the community of Jaipur. However, each individual community has its own temple where the practices take place. Although it may be a different city and a different temple, it will still be a temple dedicated to Lord Ganesh.
