Madrid's Variety of Food

Introduction:

Madrid is Spain’s capital.  Like most big cities, there are a lot of different foods that you can choose from. In addition to that, Spanish people are very serious when it comes to their food!

Traditional breakfast foods here include pastries or pan con tomate (bread with tomato) with a cup of coffee, juice or milk. Most of the students at my university eat lunch on campus, so lunchtime is always busy in the cafeteria. You can choose from different options, like a salad bar, the burrito bar or the meal of the day. The meal of the day consists of a drink, an appetizer, a main dish and a dessert. From my experiences, I've learned that dinner is the most important part of the day when it comes to food! One of the things that surprised me when I first arrived was how late dinner is. While dinner in the U.S.A. may range from four to six p.m., dinner here does not get started until around nine p.m. or later! Dinner can last from around one hour or even up to three hours. During this time, people enjoy good food, wine or other drinks, and catch up about their days. After dinner is over, some people may stay at home, while others go out.

Throughout my first month in Madrid, I have tried a variety of different foods! In Madrid, I have found delicious ice cream parlors, tea places, Mexican, Indian and traditional Spanish restaurants.
