I couldn’t believe how skilled the boat drivers are at navigating around other boats and knowing how to get through all of the smaller rivers and inlets without getting lost! I’m constantly fascinated and impressed by people’s way of life on the waters of the delta.
This mode of transportation is directly linked to the environment. Can Tho is located in the delta. What I find most interesting about the boats is how they reflect Vietnamese culture. All the boat drivers seem to know each other, from the people on large boats selling hundreds of pineapples, to the tour guides and floating coffee shops that deliver fresh coffee from their motorboats. Everyone seems to be smiling and laughing while they’re cruising around – it's always a good day to be on the river. People here value their tight-knit communities, and it’s been so nice to get a glimpse of how that applies to people who live and work in the canals.
