Getting Around in South Korea

Sometimes, the bus rides feel more like rollercoaster rides, so you have to make sure to hold on tight if you are traveling standing up! I love the fact that buses here have their own lanes in the middle of the road. Since buses are so popular in Seoul, bus stops and bus lanes are placed in the middle of the roads which makes it faster and easier for buses to get around in the city.

Luckily, many places are in walking distance; however, walking can be tiring at times because in Seoul, there are tons of hills! In fact, I live on a very steep hill, and my university is on another steep hill. So, every day I have to go up and down two different hills just to go to class!

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

Korean culture is a very respectful culture and also very modern. In Korean culture, elders are treated very respectfully. When speaking to an elder you have to use special honorific words in order to show respect. On buses and on the subway, there are special seats or areas reserved just for the elderly. Additionally, there are pink seats that are for women who are pregnant. Also, if all of the seats are taken on a bus, it is expected that you would give up your seat to an elderly person. Take a moment to think about public transportation where you are from. Which is the cheapest to use? Have you ever given up your seat for another passenger? Why was this?
