From Amsterdam to London: Reflections on My Study Abroad Journey

One of the most amazing parts of studying abroad was having the freedom and opportunities to travel to neighboring countries so easily. While living in Europe, I was able to travel to 8 different countries and 13 different cities. It felt good to experience new cultures, hear different languages and learn how connected countries were despite their differences. Being able to travel and explore so many places helped me become more independent, open-minded and confident. Every city, train ride, museum and conversation taught me something new.

I am incredibly thankful that I had the opportunity to study abroad. This experience showed me that anything is possible if you work hard. From a girl growing up in Jamaica, Queens, a dot on the globe, to traveling throughout Europe. You can grow by stepping outside your comfort zone and experiencing new places, perspectives and people. Studying abroad reminds me that learning does not only happen in textbooks but also happens through the conversations we have with one another, travel, exploration and asking questions.

During my time abroad, I got to try new foods, learn about different cultures, meet people around the world and experience what student life looks like in other countries. Some of my favorite memories came from the small everyday moments, like stumbling and finding a new face, getting lost on the metro and exploring a multitude of communities.

Sharing this experience with all of you has made this journey even more meaningful for me. Writing these updates allowed me to reflect on everything I experienced and become even more grateful for every step of the journey.
