Australia's Environment

Introduction:

So far we have learned that Australia's seasons are opposite to ours. We have also learned that the winter in Australia is much warmer than our winters at home. Additionally, we have learned about how the plants and animals are even different here. All of these differences have one thing in common and that is the fact that the environment in Australia is much different than ours.

What makes this environment special or different?:

The environment in Australia is special because there are many different weather conditions throughout the continent. As you probably remember, I live in Sydney. Sydney is a big city with fairly consistent weather. The coldest it gets in the winter is around 50 degrees, while in the summer it is very hot with temperatures near 100 degrees. I arrived near the end of winter, and the temperature has ranged from 55-95 degrees since I have been here. The other difference with Sydney summers is that the heat is called a "dry heat." At home, we often have humid days. This is where the air feels sticky and it makes your hair frizzy, so the temperature outside feels much warmer than it actually is, but this rarely happens in Sydney.

You might also remember that I took a big trip up the coast of Australia. While I was on my trip, I visited the Daintree Rainforest. The rainforest is very different than the environment in Sydney.
