Our News

Seaga was an anthropologist before he became PM and as such championed many local Jamaican traditions. One of them was Revivalism. A Revivalist ceremony consists of a lot of singing and is simply beatiful to behold.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Unbelievably,  I bumped into my college roommate who I haven't seen in 20 years in Charles Town! We had a lot of fun catching up!

What did I read this week?:

I read a lot of articles on Revivalism because I knew I would be attending the ceremony. It was so fascinating to read about Revivalism and then see it in person!

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I din't play any games or sports this week. I met a new friend who uses soccer as a way to steer young boys and girls away from gangs and violence. His work is very important, and I was so glad to meet him and hear what he is doing.

Other news from this week:

I learned a lot about the Maroons, Revivalism, Kumina and slaughtering chickens. I also met some incredible artists who have built culture in Jamaica. It was especially humbling to listen to veteran artists talk about their careers and their experiences. I laughed so much as they recounted their stories.
