The main language spoken in Tiwanaku is Spanish. Many people also speak the indigenous languages of Aymara and Quechua. Since the ancient ruins of Tiwanaku are a popular tourist attraction, we often heard English being spoken by the tour guides.
Bolivianos are the main currency in Tiwanaku. Seven bolivianos ($7 BOB) are equal to about one United States Dollar ($1 USD).
One liter of water costs about Bs7 in Tiwanaku. That's seven bolivianos.
The best meal we had this week was Silpancho. Silpancho is another one of Bolivia’s most popular and traditional dishes. It is served with a large pile of white rice on the bottom of the plate, followed by a thin layer of fried meat and a fried egg on top. A small portion of sliced, fried potatoes (similar to French fries) is placed next to the pile of rice, meat and egg. The plate is then garnished with a small salad made from chopped tomato, onion, beet and parsley. Last but not least, Silpancho is almost always served with a side of spicy llajua (chili sauce).
