This week, we traveled 170 kilometers, or approximately 105 miles from Jupapina to Tiwanaku.

We estimate that we have traveled approximately 3,120 miles so far.

How did I get around this week?:

In order to travel to Tiwanaku, we took a taxi from Jupapina to the center of La Paz. From there, we took a minibus to Tiwanaku. On the way back to Jupapina, we took a minibus to El Alto. From El Alto, we took the Mi Teleférico back down to the center of La Paz. Then, we took another taxi back to our volunteer house.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place we visited this week was definitely Tiwanaku! Situated about two hours west of La Paz by bus, Tiwanaku is a city of ancient ruins. According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), Tiwanaku was the capital of a powerful pre-Hispanic empire that dominated a large area of the southern Andes and beyond, reaching the height of its power sometime between 500 and 900 AD.
