Our News

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week, we listened to a lot of pop music from Sweden and Norway. Since her stomach is all better and she’s back from her stay at the clinic, our roommate Idunn has been cooking a lot this week. Whenever she cooks, she loves to listen to music. Swedish and Norweigan pop music are her favorite!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

This week, Up Close Bolivia hosted an English Day at the university in La Paz. All of the volunteers participated in this event, and it was so much fun! We created four different stations where the university students could practice their English skills using real-world scenarios. For his station, Josh was a taxi driver from New York City, and for mine I was the owner and server at a small café in Chicago. Check out our video from English Day in our Albums section!

What did I read this week?:

We have been reading The New York Times online nearly every day this week, mostly to follow along with what is happening with the presidential impeachment inquiry.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

This week we played a lot of games with our English classes. One of our Bolivian students’ favorites is when we play a fast-paced song, like “The Gummy Bear Song.” The students sit in a circle and, while the song is playing, they have to pass a small basketball. When the song stops, the student holding the ball must either read an English flashcard or answer a question in English. We don’t have a very creative name for this game yet, so for now, we just call it “Pass the Ball.”
