Cappadocian Candies: A True Turkish Delight!

Introduction:

This past week, I took a trip to a region in Turkey called Cappadocia (KAP-uh-doh-ki-a). Many tourists travel here to experience its hot air balloons and quirky cone-shaped rock formations. However, this region in central Turkey also offers lots of delicious local cuisine. While exploring Cappadocia on a guided tour, I got to stop by a market and taste an assortment of Turkish nuts and candies. Each treat I tried was delicious! Read on to learn more about my delightful experience tasting locally made Turkish sweets. 

What food did I try?:

I tried lots of different seeds, nuts and candies. The assortment of treats the market offered for sampling by shoppers included: pumpkin seeds, apricot seeds, molasses-covered walnuts, sesame-covered peanuts, dried apricots (both plain and chocolate covered!), dry cotton candy and four types of Turkish delight. I tasted all of these treats!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I felt excited to try most of these treats! We stopped at the market close to the end of our tour, so I was feeling a little hungry and ready to have a snack.

I felt hesitant to try the pumpkin seeds because it seemed strange and unfamiliar to me to encounter these as a snack.
