Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I traveled closer to the center of Tokyo, into an area called Harajuku. This is a well-known area for the huge amount of cute and crazy cloths, shops and people. This area is only 26 miles away from my dorm, but it takes one and a half hours to get there by train.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I have traveled around 7,800 miles since coming to Japan in September last year. That's a long way!

How did I get around this week?:

Trains are the main form of transportation in Japan. I use the train whenever I’m going to another town or have a long distance to go. Exchange students like myself aren’t able to get a bicycle, so I walk about 20 minutes each way to get to the supermarket or the shopping center. This week, I used the train a couple times for long distances and walked everywhere else.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The most interesting place I visited this week was probably Harajuku. I had never been to that area before and there were so many different foods and items being sold. Harajuku is very popular with tourists, so the streets were very crowded and there were so many people that it was hard to move around. Inside of Harajuku, I really liked this cute little sticker shop that had many different kinds of stickers, signs and keychains.
