One of the doctors told me the story about how one doctor diagnosed him with Cancer after many previous doctors had overlooked the symptoms that he had. He said that if it had not been for that doctor, he would not be alive today, nor able to help all the patients he came to help in the Dominican Republic. After hearing that story, it reminded me of how my dad almost died from Appendicitis. If he had gone to the doctor a few hours later, he could very well have died. I had never thought about the impact that that particular doctor had made on my life. My life would be very different today if my dad had died, and a huge emptiness would be felt without him. These reflections made me much more thankful for the work that doctors do and more observant of the fact that just because one does not feel the impact someone has on their life, it does not mean that the impact is not there.
