Hi unu! (That’s like saying “y’all” in Belizean Kriol!)
My name is Mia and I come all the way from Santa Barbara, California.
When I was growing up, I always dreamed of traveling and helping people at the same time. I even went on service trips in high school to volunteer, but those trips just made me want to do even MORE!
I went to college at the University of Colorado, Boulder, where I studied Leadership and Community Engagement. That’s just a fancy way of saying I learned how people can work together to make their neighborhoods and schools better.
It was then in college when I learned about the Peace Corps. The Peace Corps is a group of volunteers from the United States who go to other countries to work on special projects with the people who live there. I thought, “That’s perfect for me!” So now… here I am in Belize! I have been here for a little over a year now, and have loved every second of it.
My project is helping with after-school sports programs at a primary school in my town to encourage kids to live healthy, active lives. It’s been so much fun, and I’ve learned a lot along the way.
