The "Chicken Buses" of Guatemala

Chicken buses connect Guatemala's rural and urban parts. They allow for poorer Guatemalans to travel from remote towns to the cities. Unfortunately, the buses have a negative impact on the environment. They often release black smoke out of their exhaust which causes pollution in the air. In Guatemala, the laws on environmental pollution from vehicles are less strict than in the USA. I have experienced this fact first hand, having had, many times, a chicken bus fly by me leaving me in a cloud of unhealthy black smoke. Blagh!
