A TukTuk to Teotitlan Del Valle

Introduction:

The Mexican state of Oaxaca is famous for two things: delicious food and artisan handicrafts. There are many pueblos or small communities that surround the capitol, La Ciudad de Oaxaca, that you can visit by micro (city bus) or collectivo (shared taxi) to see where beautiful handicrafts are made. I decided to visit Teotitlan del Valle and discovered that when you arrive, you must transfer from your micro or collectivo to a local tuktuk. Tuktuks are part of the fun of visiting this pueblo, famous for textile weaving and candle making.

How do people get around?:

In the state of Oaxaca, there is a variety of transportation options. You can find public buses, shared or private taxis, motorcycles and personal vehicles, as well as many, many people on foot. In smaller communities, it can be difficult to navigate the narrow and steep streets, so small vehicles like the tuktuk are an understandably widespread form of transportation.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

Tuktuks are one of my very favorite ways to travel. They are typically open to the elements with one or both sides of the little vehicle completely open.
