Compared to other countries, I think Denmark has many similarities to the United States! In fact, Danes love a lot of things that America makes, such as American music, movies and books. One of the biggest differences between Danish people and Americans, though, is that Danes are taught something called "The Law of Jante" (pronounced YAN-teh) from the time they are babies.

There are ten Laws of Jante that all Danish people are taught about. Basically, the laws state that everybody is equal, that you shouldn't think you are smarter, better, or more important than somebody else and that you shouldn't laugh at anybody. The Danish people express these laws in many ways. For example, it is not very common in Denmark to brag about something that you have done. You wouldn't find a Danish person bragging about a good grade on a test or a brand new T.V. or phone they had bought. I think this is very different from life in the U.S., where we learn that everybody is special in their own way, and that if you have accomplished something good, like a good grade, you should be very proud of yourself. In fact, you usually tell the people who love you and they are proud of you, too! The Danish way isn't worse or better than the American way, but it is very different.
