Integrating Into My Virtual Japanese Community

We still give presentations, but now we also share videos to help us remember the information.  Even though we cannot be together in person, we still have a lot of fun together. Along with Japanese club, to really dive into Japanese language and culture, I really wanted to practice my Japanese and meet Japanese friends that are in Japan. So I started using an app called HelloTalk. It’s a language exchange app where you can meet people from the country with the language you are studying and you can practice speaking! It is very helpful as I have met some Japanese friends there who have taught me a lot about Japanese daily life and I can speak in Japanese with them, so it makes me feel much more like I am in Japan.

These are just a few examples from my daily life to show that while it may be hard and seem impossible at first, you can definitely still find ways to integrate yourself in your communities virtually, even immersing in the culture and language of another country. You can even accomplish this from the comfort of your home, as long as you try your best and get creative!
