The journey to the cocoa beans was a tiring but fun adventure. Kakum National Park is about five hours away from Accra, where my cohort and I are staying. To get there, we had to leave our dorms at 5 a.m. for a road trip. I accidentally missed my alarm that morning, so we left a bit later than that, oops.
I personally love road trips. I grew up bouncing back and forth between Florida and New York City, and sometimes we would do a road trip instead of flying. Roadtripping in Ghana was a very different experience for me, though, because there are many unpaved and rocky roads. I thought I’d feel sick because I get motion sickness, but I didn’t. I found the bumps really fun, and felt like I was on an amusement park ride. It was pretty hot that day, and hiking made me thirsty and tired. I had a water bottle, but it wasn’t enough.
The canopy walk was gorgeous! However, I couldn’t help but think that there should have been a zipline included in the walk. We were up so high, and it would be the perfect spot to put one; my cohort shared my opinion. After the canopy walk, we went to the resort that we’d be staying in overnight. It was gorgeous, and I wish we could have stayed longer. We ended the day with a yummy dinner, karaoke, and a bonfire hang out.
