When I was growing up, we had dinner as a family after my dad came home from work. Lunch was more informal. We ate when we felt hungry and did not sit as a family. You probably eat lunch with your friends in the school cafeteria. Here in Brazil, lunch is the biggest meal of the day and a respected time. Adults even leave work for an hour or so to go home and eat lunch with their families. Everyone comes to sit, eat and talk together during lunchtime. This long lunch helps people to relax and get ready for the second part of their day.
Living in a new culture is not always easy. Sometimes, you miss the way that you do things at home. Sometimes, you have to watch people carefully to know what to do. Sometimes, you might feel a little uncomfortable because you do not understand what is going on. All of these feelings are normal! At other times, you might experience a new holiday, try a new food or learn about a new cultural practice that you love. The most important part of visiting a new culture is understanding. Understand that you might see the world differently than the people in the country you are visiting. Then, do your best to try new things, see new sights, and have new experiences that give you the opportunity to see the world from someone else's perspective. How amazing is that?
