We are in the rainy season in Ecuador right now. That means it rains every day! Some days it can rain up to three or four times in a single day. It usually rains early in the morning. It may stay gray or the sun will come out for a bit. In the afternoon it rains again then, but then clears up. This can happen again in the evening or late at night, too. These are gray days in Quito, but also such a thrill when the sun does come out for a few hours. You can still see the clouds and rain gathering at the summit of Rucu Pichincha, a nearby volcano, so another wave of rain isn't far off. One of my best pieces of gear is a small umbrella I always carry in my backpack. Just because it's sunny when you leave the house, doesn't mean you're safe from the rain.
I live in the city, so I don't get an opportunity to see much wildlife. The most common animals to see are all the cute dogs that Ecuadorians take for walks on the street. Ecuadorians love dogs! The dogs are often wearing little jackets or sweaters.
