Don't Say "Thank You!"

Americans typically do not have parades in which they block traffic and throw flowers around the town to celebrate life. Indians' relationship with death is more positive, whereas our relationship with death is more negative.

I think this difference in perspective is really beautiful. I like the idea of celebrating life and all the goodness and the color of it. What do you think about this different perspective?

Another perspective that I have noticed here is sense of hospitality and generosity that is shared between friends. When you go out to a restaurant with a friend and they pay for you, it is not common to say “thank you” to that person because their generosity was expected. I have been told multiple times here “don’t say thank you.” This felt very strange to me at first. In the U.S., we are always taught to say “please” and “thank you,” so to be told not to say thank you was a shock. However, it makes me realize how gracious people are here. Would you feel funny if someone told you not to say “thank you?"
