Jungle Monks Who Depend on the Land

Introduction:

There are various types of monks within the Buddhist way of life. Each type of monk is associated with a specific robe color and leads a unique way of life. The monks who reside in the jungle for the majority of the year rely on the resources provided to them by the land and nearby communities.

What makes this environment special or different?:

The jungles of Thailand are a complex environment and the home to many species. Living in such a place for most of the year would be an interesting yet difficult process. The monks who live here are some of the most committed to achieving enlightenment through the separation of all worldly pleasures, which is drastically different from the behavior practiced in the Western world. Many resources such as food, water and medicine can be provided by the jungle itself. In addition, the monks sometimes use solely a mosquito net for shelter.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

Throughout history, indigenous people have used the natural landscape to depend and thrive. The land naturally provides nearly everything any species need to survive. Furthermore, the fruits, water found within the limbs of trees and herbs which are used to combat certain illnesses has allowed jungle monks to thrive for generations.
