Proud Traditions In Israel

Introduction:

Israel has so many traditions, including cultural, religious and culinary traditions and more.

Perhaps the most obvious tradition in Israel is the religious tradition. Because Israel is the world's only Jewish state, Jewish holidays are recognized nationally. People have time off from work, and everyone is aware of the holiday coming up. The schedule of the week becomes oriented around preparations for the holiday. Even though people celebrate in very different ways, from spending the entire day in synagogue praying to taking a long hike as a family, citizens of Israel take their traditions very seriously.

What tradition did I learn about?:

One tradition I recently learned about was Mimouna, which is a tradition belonging to North African Jews, mostly from Morocco and Algeria. Mimouna marks the end of Passover, which is a holiday that all Jews observe. Passover celebrates the release of the Jews from slavery in Egypt, and it is observed by not eating chametz (leavened bread) for the eight days of Passover. There are two Passover seders (ceremonial meals) where the story of Passover is retold and a dinner is shared among friends and family. While all Jews take part in the Passover seder and stay away from chametz, only Moroccan Jews celebrate Mimouna
