Tasting delicious patacones

Introduction:

Costa Rica has a lot of great foods! Most traditional dishes in Costa Rica consist of rice and beans along with other ingredients like chicken or fish and different sorts of vegetables. One very popular dish enjoyed throughout the country is pataconesPatacones are fried plantains that have been sprinkled with salt for a crunchy, delicious snack or meal. They can be dipped in guacamole, sauce, or topped with salsa!

What food did I try?:

Not only did I enjoy patacones while in Costa Rica, but I also enjoyed local fruits. Costa Rica has an abundant amount of fruit. Many of the fruits I ate there are not as common here in the United States. For instance, I enjoyed guaynabana and star fruit while I was there.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I always love to try new foods when I travel. I like to immerse myself in the culture, and food is a big part of that. I felt very happy to try these new foods because they are not common where I am from. The first time I tried patacones was at a local restaurant in the beach town of Jaco. The waitress highly recommended the dish and said that it was a staple in Costa Rican food culture. I couldn't pass up this offer, and I'm so glad I tried this delicious and salty treat!
