Dear reader,
Before I go introduce myself, I want to thank you for joining me on this new journey. It means the world to me!
I am currently a junior Geography major attending Gustavus Adolphus College in Saint Peter, Minnesota. I am a proud first-generation, low-income, indigenous, child of immigrants and Hmong-American student. My academic interests lie in geopolitics, international migration and climate/environmental justice. In the future, I hope to make the world more equitable.
My passion to learn about different environments and cultures other than my own was sparked at a young age. Growing up in Saint Paul, Minnesota, I was surrounded by a variety of cultures and ethnicities. To have been kindly welcomed into the lives of others who had an identity different than mine taught me the importance of cross-cultural education, storytelling and diversity. Additionally, my love for learning about different cultures stems from the stories of lived experiences and journeys my parents have been through.
I was born in the United States, but my parents were born in Laos. As a child, my parents would tell me stories of their childhood and how precious life was living in the high mountains and jungles of northern Laos.
