I stocked my apartment fridge and pantry for the first time this week. I went to a grocery store named Mercadona that is in front of my flat. I thought that it would be a simple thing to do, but there were many differences from grocery stores in Georgia. First, to get a cart you had to deposit a euro into a lock mechanism. Second, the store had everything you would find at a grocery store, but more. There was an entire section for fresh fish that you could buy by the kilogram. There was also a section with hanging pork legs where you could get deli meat. Another difference was that the store had two stories, and there was a moving walkway connecting the two floors. The most surprising thing was that all the milk was stored at room temperature!
In Vigo, the month of January is the coldest and wettest. It was no surprise that it was mostly cloudy all week and that it rained. I did not mind this weather at all since the weather was perfect with a cup of café con leche (coffee with milk).
