How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water here costs between €0.80 and €7, depending on where you buy it. If you go to a supermarket, water will be much cheaper, and you can get a liter of water for €0.80, which is a steal. However, if you go to a street shop, like a döner kebab shop, water will cost around €2.50 for half a liter, which is alright but not ideal. The worst, though, is at a restaurant, where half a liter will cost around €3.50 and a full liter will cost around €7, which I think is too much. I’ve heard you can ask for tap water, which is supposed to be free, but it’s uncommon. Germans typically don’t drink tap water. People will be quite confused if you ask for it, so it’s almost expected that you buy bottled water instead.

What was the best meal this week?:

The best meal I’ve had this week was pork knuckle with mashed potatoes and pickled cabbage. Before coming to Germany, I saw on Instagram that this was a very popular meal in Germany, and I always wanted to try it. It was just as good as it looked. The meat was tender, and the fatty part was so juicy. The mashed potatoes provided a nice, soft touch in between bites of pork, while the pickled cabbage had a nice, sharp acidic flavor that added a great contrast to the saltier meat and potatoes. Overall, I’d rate it a 9/10.

What music did I listen to this week?:

This week, I’ve been listening to what I normally listen to back at home: a mix of hip-hop, pop punk, pop rap, Nepali, Hindi and instrumentals. I’ve also been watching a lot of films lately and discovering some new songs.
