Dear Friends,
I heard you were curious about pop culture here in Denmark, so let me fill you in!
Danish people listen to all kinds of music. A lot of people love pop and electronic music, and local artists like Christopher and MØ are super popular. But you'll also hear plenty of American and international hits. Walk into almost any store or cafe and you'll probably hear the same familiar songs you'd hear back home. Personally, I think I've heard "Starships" by Nicki Minaj more times than I can count at this point.
In the summer, Denmark comes alive with huge music festivals. The most famous one is Roskilde Festival, where people camp out, hang with friends, and listen to live music for days. It's one of the biggest music festivals in all of Europe! I'm actually thinking about going if I'm still here.
Something I find funny is that Denmark is actually one of the safest countries in the world, so not a lot of crime happens in real life. So what do Danes do? They watch super dark crime shows! This genre is called Nordic noir, and it’s all about mysteries, detectives, and gloomy weather. A famous example is a show called The Killing. It's like people need something dramatic to watch because real life is so peaceful. Danish humor itself is also pretty interesting.
