Recently, I talked to Katlo, a schoolgirl growing up in Botswana. I asked her lots of questions about things like she eats, how she helps at home, what school is like, and the games she loves to play, to learn about her daily life. She also told me about her family, her favorite music, her dreams for the future and her curiosity about life in other parts of the world. Her story provides a colorful, personal look at childhood in Botswana and the joys, routines, and hopes that shape it.
For breakfast, I usually eat warm porridge. At lunch, I have samp (corn cooked with beans). For dinner, we often eat chicken with rice and beetroot, which is my favorite part of the meal.
Our house is painted pink! We have a living room, two bedrooms, a kitchen and a washroom. Instead of showers, we take baths with buckets. I share a room with my little sister. We wash our laundry by hand outside and hang our clothes to dry on a line.
