I moved to Hobart, Tasmania a few months ago to study for my master’s degree in marine science, the study of the ocean. There is so much to learn about living in another country. I’m happy you’re here to come along for the adventure!

The island of Tasmania is south of Australia, down on the bottom of the globe. If you got in a boat in Tasmania and drove south, the next continent you would bump into is Antarctica! Because of this, Tasmania has a cool climate with very unique oceans and wildlife. Down here in “Tassie”, we have Tasmanian devils, wombats, wallabies, echidnas, and my favorite: Little penguins! Tasmania is a very special place with its own unique wildlife, culture, and climate. I can’t wait to tell you all about it!

Before I moved to Australia to study the ocean and Antarctica, I lived in Massachusetts. I went to college in Boston and volunteered at the New England Aquarium in the penguin colony. This is where my love for penguins first began! At the aquarium, I fed penguins fish, helped put medical cream on their feet, and scrubbed all the penguin poop off the exhibit. I learned that penguins can be very friendly and charismatic little creatures. They recognized me each day when I got into the exhibit and they each had their own personality quirks.
