My best meal this week was with my host family. They took me out to dinner at a family-style restaurant, which means there is a table of around eight to ten people and a big spinning circle in the middle of the table. Everyone has a small plate and bowl, and large dishes are delivered to the table. You take some of a dish, eat it, take some of another, eat that and so on. The restaurant specialized in seafood, so we ate a whole fish, soup, shrimp, fishball soup, duck lettuce wraps, soups and shellfish. After dinner, they delivered dessert: a popular jelly dessert soup, canteloupe and grapes. Grapes in Taiwan are extremely expensive, and extremely large, so that was a real delicacy! Family-style dinners are really fun because you get to try everything and talk about each dish with your guests. The food was delicious!
I mostly listen to American music, like rock and jazz. But, this week, I went to the Lukang Rock Music Festival, which was AWESOME! It is a weekend festival that people come to from all around Taiwan. They put on their all black, metal-studded outfits and big boots, and stand in a big mosh pit. A lot of the artists are not super popular, but some of them are huge.
A Taiwanese album I have been liking is QUIT QUIETLY by Sunset Rollercoaster.
Other than the Lukang Music Festival, I had a lot of fun playing pickleball with my fellow American English teachers in Changhua County and our host families. Our coordinators rented out a pickleball center and booked us lessons.
